California State University, Fresno was founded as Fresno State Normal School in 1911, became a teacher’s college in 1921, and has offered advanced degrees since 1949. The university’s popular nickname is “Fresno State.” Our mascot is the Bulldog.

Academics

California State University, Fresno’s national and international award winning Theatre Arts Department offers extensive preparation in all aspects of theatre and dance. The broad curriculum, combined with an annual production schedule of more than 10 plays and several dance concerts, provides the opportunity for intensive training.
To ensure a rich and varied experience for students, the department makes extensive use of guest artists as master teachers in workshops and courses, as well as provides exposure to accomplished performers, directors, and designers.

How to apply

Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) beginning January 1st. Watch a video about filing your FAFSA.

  • ONLINE: We recommend applying online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  You (and parent) can apply for a PIN (personal identification number) through www.pin.ed.gov so you are ready to begin the application process in January.
  • PAPER: If you opt to file a paper application, take your application to the post office and ask for “proof of mailing” (approx. cost: 90¢).  Do not send the application by registered or certified mail as this may cause a delay on delivery and/or processing.
  • CAL GRANT : Check with your current school to submit a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form. A FAFSA and GPA Verification must be submitted to Fresno State by March 2nd.
  • Establish an email address with Fresno State.  This address will be used by the Financial Aid Office to email correspondence to you.
  • You should also update your mailing address as needed.  You can verify or change your mailing address after logging into the Fresno State portal at my.fresnostate.edu.
Completing your FAFSA
  • Complete the FAFSA as accurately as possible.
  • Submit all signatures (including parent if required). Signatures are required to verify information entered on your FAFSA. Any delay in submitting signatures could result in a processing delay of your FAFSA.
  • List Fresno State (Title IV Code # 001147) as a school you plan to attend. Answer all questions about your housing plans (Question number 86-97).
Addmission Requirements

All requirements below must be completed by the end of the spring 2015 semester to be considered for admission for the fall 2015 semester. Fresno State does not accept lower division transfer students at this time.

  • Completion of 60 or more transferable units (90 quarter units).
  • Completion of a minimum of 30 semester units (45 quarter units) of General Education (G.E.) with a 2.0 G.P.A. or better.
  • Completion of the four Foundation classes (area A1, A2, A3 & B4) with a grade of C or better.
  • A cumulative transfer G.P.A. of 2.0 or better is required from Local Area applicants; 2.7 or better is recommended for applicants outside the service area. Non- California residents are required to have a minimum of a 2.4 G.P.A.
  • Must be in “good standing” at the last college or university attended. Good standing means you are eligible to re-enroll at your last college or university.

*Engineering majors do not need to complete critical thinking (area A3) or lifelong understanding & self development (area E) prior to transferring.
*Liberal studies and engineering majors follow a different G.E. pattern,

Location

Fresno State’s 388-acre main campus and its 1,011-acre University Farm are located at the northeast edge of Fresno, California, at the foot of the majestic Sierra Nevada mountain range. The surrounding San Joaquin Valley is one of the richest agricultural areas in the world, and Fresno is the fifth largest city in California. The university is within an hour’s drive of many mountain and lake resorts and within a three- or four-hour drive of both Los Angeles and San Francisco.
