Overview
California State University, Fresno was founded as Fresno State Normal School in 1911, became a teacher’s college in 1921, and has offered advanced degrees since 1949. The university’s popular nickname is “Fresno State.” Our mascot is the Bulldog.

California State University, Fresno’s national and international award winning Theatre Arts Department offers extensive preparation in all aspects of theatre and dance. The broad curriculum, combined with an annual production schedule of more than 10 plays and several dance concerts, provides the opportunity for intensive training.
To ensure a rich and varied experience for students, the department makes extensive use of guest artists as master teachers in workshops and courses, as well as provides exposure to accomplished performers, directors, and designers.
California State University, Fresno is fully accredited by the California State Board of Education and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

All requirements below must be completed by the end of the spring 2015 semester to be considered for admission for the fall 2015 semester. Fresno State does not accept lower division transfer students at this time.
*Engineering majors do not need to complete critical thinking (area A3) or lifelong understanding & self development (area E) prior to transferring.
*Liberal studies and engineering majors follow a different G.E. pattern,

Faculty and Staff
2,200 full- and part-time; 96 percent of the tenured faculty hold doctoral or other terminal degrees in their areas of study.

Fresno State’s 388-acre main campus and its 1,011-acre University Farm are located at the northeast edge of Fresno, California, at the foot of the majestic Sierra Nevada mountain range. The surrounding San Joaquin Valley is one of the richest agricultural areas in the world, and Fresno is the fifth largest city in California. The university is within an hour’s drive of many mountain and lake resorts and within a three- or four-hour drive of both Los Angeles and San Francisco.
